Guest guest
I live in Canada too. I don't use endocrinoligists any more becuase I find they are all RAI crazy, despite the damage it causes. Rather than make myself sick, I let the ones I saw know that I would not do RAI, and could I try ATD's, either PTU or Tapazole for a few months. Don't let them give you a hgher dose than you need, hypo could result if left too long. I used 50 mg.x3 ( 150 mg. taken in 3 equal doses, I am weaning off slowly now) of PTU and it got me healed fine, I think tapazole dosage is around a 10-15 mg a day but I am not sure, that might be high. You may start off higher, but they tend to become impatient for no good reason and mess with the dosage and start too high, lower too quickly and not gradually, so they can rush us into RAI saying " told ya it woldln't work! " But it does. See if you can get the endo to put you on the ATD's " for a short term " and then maybe see if your own GP can or will continue treatment and prescribing drugs to you. Meanwhile read everything you can in the archives of group. Remember the TSH reading takes a long time to move. Don't let anyone rush you into RAI, it has a lot of permanent ramifications and is usually not necessary. Docs are changing becuase of an educated public but not quickly enough. Good luck! best fellow canuck Maribeth _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963
