Guest guest
I hemmed and hawed about whether to post about our experience with because I'm a little torn over it too... But, since I noticed your comments I figured I should probably share. We were hesitant to leave him in daycare, especially when we saw all the people who were participating, but it was the only way we (husband and I) could both attend the valuable sessions. When we got inside the room everyone looked so busy, so we placed him in a playpen with some of his toys. As long as he is fed, and not too sleepy he usually does well keeping himself occupied (he's 1 yr old). After an hour or so my husband got antsy worrying about him and decided he needed the peace of mind of watching himself. When he went to pick him up he noticed his name tag was in his hand and 1/2 of it was in his mouth (probably storing it there for later :-)). When my husband told me this, I asked him to make sure he let the daycare workers know what happened. When I spoke to one of them myself afterwards, she told me " well, that wasn't the sticker we put on the kids...and we never put them on the front of their clothing " . So, I felt stupid for putting the sticker on the front of his shirt (I thought it was on there pretty good?). It was the one that was issued with our packets from Magic. I guess I should have known better...but I still felt that he wasn't really getting enough attention...since nobody noticed he was eating paper...?! Anyway, the reason I'm torn is because the people did seem quite nice...and friendly...I think they were just a little overwhelmed and probably could have used a little more help. Hearing all of your stories definitely confirms that...and if I come back next year I will hopefully bring a grandparent to watch him instead. My husband and I would just feel better about it (grandma watches them for me at home as it is now, while I work full time)! Sorry so long. Food for thought. Guest guest
Hi, My son is 4.5 and Emerence is 17 months. He started daycare at 4 months of age, she at 3 months of age as my husband and I both work full time. I use a community daycare center and love it and feel my kids are loved and well cared for! I did also had concerns about the daycare in Chicago and their staffing levels and they assured me they were OVER STAFFED. I certainly didn't agree but they were adamant. I don't think they changed my daughter's diaper any of the times I left her and was also a bit concerned about the lack of control that seemed to be exhibited over the age groups. I just made sure I attached her to an adult before I left. I do think every worker I talked with though was very interested in my child and in children in general. The people I left her with did make a strong effort to connect with her and read her cues back to their efforts. However, next year I think the kids should be divided better or into smaller sections to certain workers are responsible for certain kids. Just a thought... > I hemmed and hawed about whether to post about our experience with > because I'm a little torn over it too... > > But, since I noticed your comments I figured I should probably share. > > We were hesitant to leave him in daycare, especially when we saw all > the people who were participating, but it was the only way we > (husband and I) could both attend the valuable sessions. > > When we got inside the room everyone looked so busy, so we placed him > in a playpen with some of his toys.
