Guest guest
It's so confusing- isn't it? Here's the simplest explaination I've heard: There are two separate issues. One, does your child break down gluten and/or casein into morphine peptides? Two, does your child have any IgG food sensitivies ( how many antibody " missiles " do they dump into the bloodstream everytime they consume a certain food, taxing their immune system)? Both can cause behavioral/neurological issues and both are important. Your child might have test results that seem contradictory but they are really two different but equally important issues. For example, I have two kids on the spectrum. My daughter has gluten peptide levels off the measurable scale (well, hopefully lower now since she is gfcf!) She also has a pretty high casein peptide level. Interestingly, she tests very low in IgG reaction to both gluten and casein, though she was very high on some other things like peanut and banana. So, if you only looked at the IgG tests you would think that she could probably have gluten and casein occasionally, but she can't because she produces tons of peptides. In contrast, my son's peptide levels were above normal, but nowhere near as high as my daughters BUT, his IgG results on gluten and casein were skyhigh. So....they are both strictly GFCF. My son's problems appear more allergy/food intolerance related, and my daughter's more immune system related (she also had some immune deficiencies show up on other tests). Of course, it's probably all related. I know several kids who tested positive for peptides only with casein, but are still wheat free because they tested very high on the IgG. Hope this helps, I have to keep straightening this out in my mind all the time! As long as I'm posting, I'll add my tip that I haven't posted in awhile- I keep a set of those 3x5 notecards that bound on a spiral near my computer. Then whenever anybody has posted an interesting recipe I copy it in the notecard book. It keeps the recipes together and then you can just tear out the notecards later and insert them in a recipe book, or keep them together in the spiral! Have a great day! sara
