Guest guest
To those parents who have children who are reacting to fast food that is supposedly gfcf and other foods that are supposed to be gfcf or might possibly be cross-contaminated but other gfcf kids are doing fine on them, please consider the possibility of a corn reaction. My own daughter was one who was reacting to all sorts of things that other gfcf kids were eating with no problems and we finally figured out that she can't have corn either. If your child is having fits of hyperactivity or anger or other problems that you can't seem to pinpoint, then I would at least try a more aggressive diet to see if that clears it up. It can be a royal pain, but it would let you see what you need to do. If it doesn't help, well then you know. But if it does help, then life is much easier than you can imagine right now. My daughter is gluten, casein, corn free, reduced sugar, and extremely reduced soy, dyes, preservatives, or phenols and she is doing spectacularly well. The items that are extremely reduced are things that once or twice a month she may get something with a small amount in it. She eats a balanced and very broad variety of things. I was satisfied with just gfcf for quite some time even though she had violent outbursts and seemed to prefer some foods over others unreasonably at times. I don't know what these other foods/additives do to the child over the long term if they do anything, but the short term gains were huge for us when we got the hang of it. Life is so much easier now even with the extra stuff we have to avoid. I tend to ramble and nag, but I hope some of that made sense. I hope that if you are having problems with foods that others are not having problems with, then you will consider taking a little more away to see if it helps. Even if it seems to over-whelming to do right now, think about it for later. I haven't been on the list a lot lately because my food research goes beyond gfcf, but I do try to check in at least once or twice a week and read up on what I've missed. If you want to say something to me or ask me a question, I would recommend sending me a direct e-mail at sarahschaffer@....
