:> I might be getting the hang of this now..the blood tests ordered are

> TF TS (TSH + T4 + T3)

Can't remember what he's had done already to recommend further testing

but do insist on the FREE version of the T4 and T3 tests, not total. If

it doesn't say F or Free, then he's having total, which aren't as

accurate. The FT4 is inexpensive; the FT3 more than the Total T3 but

doesn't need to be done as regularly.

Enjoy your tea in an hour or so, take care, Fay

What is the difference between T3 T4 and Free T3 T4 please? We don't

get any choice whatsoever in the tests we have done here. I need to

know why in order for me to ask the question next time we visit the

doctor! I understand one is more accurate than the other but how and

in what respect? What will the 'free' version tell me that the ones

already ordered don't?

Thank you in advance!

Jemina,

From what I understand, the total T4 may be influenced by other factors

(medications, estrogen levels), and so is not as accurate as the FT4, which

is unbound and available to the body for use. If my explanation is

inaccurate, I'm sure someone will come along to correct it!
