I hear so many people say that they saw immediate results but the > results they posted are all hard to quantify. Like " less spacy " or " less stimmy " or " more " eye contact. Can someone even quantify these things? And then when they challenge the diet with enzymes they notice " no problems " . Maybe we are not looking for problems because we would like to get off this merry go round. Maybe it was simply a case of the diet not helping someone, so when they go off it, there are no differences.... " I think this discussion is fascinating, too, but to honest, I'm glad it wasn't happening when I was a newbie and overwhelmed with the basic gfcf diet. My kid seemed to improve dramatically (and the school psych & teachers commented on it, not knowing about the diet). I thought things were great. But thanks to this list, as time went by, I kept finding more & more hidden g & c and removing it. Also, I was convinced that my kid didn't react to certain additives, but slowly began removing them. 18 months down the road, it's pretty clear that he does react negatively to more ingredients than I'd previously realized (usually with ADHD-like behavior). And very minor g & c infringements that I don't catch, Ian does. Fortunately, he is very verbal and tells me that his " thoughts are starting to get crazy " or that his concentration isn't as good. Re being too optimistic, I have his teachers do the ATEC for me as I found that they score him quite differently than I do. The first time I saw the 20 point difference, I was shocked, but it was a good lesson for me. And the important thing is that the score continues to drop, so we know that the interventions are effective.
