Guest guest
When I took synthroid only, I never did feel right but I did have a few TSH test come back showing that the synthroid alone made me hyper in my TSH results. Question 1. Does this mean I was converting some T4 to T3 or was I just building up the T4 and geetting a false psoitve hyper as a TSH result due to the build up? Do some people not convert any T4 to T3? Question 2. I have some thyroid left after my RAI and I am just wondering if I need Cytomal only? Could I just be storing all the T4 from the Armour I am now own?
Guest guest
Hi, A low TSH after RAI is often related to your increased levels of TSH receptor antibodies since they falsely lower TSH levels. Very often, TSH can't be relied on to accurately monitor your thyroid status. Your FT4 and FT3 levels are better indicators of your true thyroid status. Your body needs some freshly converted T3 from T4 so you don't want to take T3 alone even if you do have some thyroid function. Armour is a good choice since it replaces T4 and T3. Guest guest
The TSH test relies on blood levels of T4 and will become suppressed whether or not you're converting T4 to T3 efficiently. FT4 tests also rely only on blood levels. Both tests are only indicative of circulating thyroid hormone levels not what you're using at the cellular level. T4 is converted to T3 at the cellular level. If you're not taking T3 (which you are by taking Armour) the doctor could see if you're converting by testing those levels. If you weren't converting at all, there would be no T3 (and a person wouldn't last very long). If you're not converting efficiently, the doctor can indirectly decide by testing FT4, thyroid binding globulin (TBG) which is expensive, plus FT3 (unbound T3) levels. Your body will try to free up as much T4 as possible so your TBG would be very low if you're converting inefficiently. Or a rougher, even more indirect, and cheaper way to do it would be to measure FT4, Total T3 (includes bound and unbound T3) and FT3 levels. The Total T3 level in relation to FT4 and FT3 could give your doctor and estimation where your TBG levels are. OK, I'm hoping that made sense. If it doesn't, let me know and I'll try to be clearer. I'm distracted right now. Gotta run because those babies are crying.
