Guest guest
My mother and her husband live on Hutchinson Island, the place that took a direct hit from Jeanne as well as Ivan. They cannot go back there yet. The electricity was turned off on Thursday afternoon and won't be back on for a couple of weeks, or so they say. Once again, they decided to leave and go to a safer place that was further inland than they chose for Ivan, and a bit further north, just south of Orlando. Wouldn't you know it? They were in the direct path AGAIN! They have no electricity and her husband's car back window was smashed and the car filled with water, but that is all for now. They are with friends who went to the same place with them, they have plenty of vodka and canned food and water, so they are trying to make the best of it. Unfortunately, this is taking a tremendous psychological toll on my mom. I am trying to get her to go to the doctor to get some pharmaceutical help until she can better deal with it. She finally agreed. I just cannot imagine going through what those poor people in Florida have gone through. Jodi Z.
Guest guest
Jodi, I as sorry to hear of your mother's situation. You are right - this hurricane stuff is the pits. I am definitely over it by now, but hurricane season is still going! My mother-in-law who lives in CT also has a vactaion condo in Vero Beach. She is down now, and went to stay with my brother-in-law in West Palm Beach. Vero really took a hit and they are on their way back to assess the damage, but I haven't heard from them yet. We had minimal damage here - Frances was worse for us. I am blessed that it has just been an inconvenience for us with power outages, a few trees down, and difficulty preparing with shutters & supplies. I really feel for those who have had damage not just once, but several times from the hurricanes. Homeowner's policies down here have a hurricane clause which says a homeowner has to pay a certain percent (usually 2-10%) of the value of their home for each hurricane occurrence as a deductible. So, a $200,000 house with a 2% deductible has to pay at least $4000 out of pocket for damages for each hurricane 7 chance being dropped after filing a claim! I hope we have seen our last hurricane for awhile... Kim C. > My mother and her husband live on Hutchinson Island, the place that > took a direct hit from Jeanne as well as Ivan.
