Hi everyone,

I have one more month before I go in for new labs. My last set showed my

levels were improving so my two PTU per day was kept the same. Lately

though I am gaining weight very easily, am depressed quite often, am

having bursts of anger that are hard to control and am not sleeping

well. I fall asleep easily but am awoken easily too and then I have

trouble going back to sleep. I have never had sleep problems before. The

fits of anger are not PMS related as it’s not that time yet.

This may sound weird but here goes. I have been hyper/borderline

hyperthyroid for many years now. Could it be that my body has adjusted

to having a higher than normal thyroid level and in turn feels hypo

without the high levels? The weight gain is especially depressing as I

worked hard 4-5 years ago to lose a lot of weight and I have now gained

½ of it back. I have been keeping an eye on my heart-rate too. Last week

I had that very strange day where my heart-rate was very high (resting

it was 96 bpm), but lately it’s been between 64 and 74 beat per minute.

What is a “normal” resting heart-rate anyway?

I did something good for myself yesterday and joined Curves for Women. I

have heard great things about them and decided my sedentary lifestyle is

bad for my health. Exercise will help with bone density and strength and

they let you go at your own pace so I can go as easy or as hard as I

want. During my interview with them I told them I was a Graves Disease

patient and they asked if I had been cleared by my doctor to

participate, which is a yes. My doctor just wants me to keep an eye on

my heart-rate and not overdo it.

in MA USA

Graves since March 1997

Currently on 2 PTU tablets per day

Was in remission from 2000-2003

Will not undergo RAI
