Guest guest
Today it's three weeks that Spencer (just turned 4) is GFCF (exception for the M & M he found one day and another minor goof), and I have lots of questions. I am hoping that some of you good people can answer them. 1) When will we notice benefits, if any? He already does have some speech - one or two words, just beginning 3 word phrases. Will he one day wake up talking paragraphs, or will this be a long, slow process. How will I know if it's really making a difference, or if he would just be improving (due to his usual therapy) anyway? 2) Will it clear up his mushy stools? If so, how long does that take? 3) I don't think he's getting enough protein -- I heard he should have 40 grams/day. He won't eat the homemade chicken nuggets or fish sticks I make him (won't even TRY them). Any suggestions? 4) What is all this about enzyme therapy? I have no clue to what that is. Well, I'll stop there. Thank you very much.
Guest guest
> 4) What is all this about enzyme therapy? I have no clue to what > that is. , A new message board has been formed to discuss enzymes and their use at: www.groups.yahoo.com/group/enzymesandautism. Since some new enzyme products became available 4 weeks ago this has become a very " strong " topic. One parent writes: " My son is not only now able to eat many previously problematic foods with no problems, but his behavior has dramatically improved since starting the HNI enzymes. This is after one year being GFCF. " Be sure to click on " Files " in the yellow box at the above mentioned site. There are several pretty amazine posts in the " Success Stories " relating parents initial results. Many address bowel problems. Your questions are welcome, please contact me if I can be of any help. .
Guest guest
P.S. There is an excellent (and very concise) FAQ section on what enzymes are, how they work, and how they relate to diet at www.houstonni.com . > > 4) What is all this about enzyme therapy? Guest guest
It was about 3-4 weeks when we started seeing benefit. Our sons passed solid stools for the first time around 4.5 weeks (after 7 years of mush) . Beforehand he passed an evil smelling blockage, the poor child was white and shaking. Better socialization and speech followed in the weeks after. Will this diet totally " cure " our son? No. But without it I don't believe he will recover either, or reach his full potential. This diet has improved our sons quality of life tenfold, he improves steadily. If your son is 4 I would recommend you look at an ABA program as well. It offers great hope for kids as young as yours and is scientifically validated to have measurable success. It is a non medical therapy, but provides a proven method of teaching autistic children. http://www.feat.org/ is a resource site for Families for Early Autism Treatment (FEAT) an intl. advocacy group for ABA. Best wishes for your family, . please direct off topic ABA inquiries to me at thujalog@... glad to be of help.
