Guest guest
Hi J, You may want to ask your doctor to run tests for SSA, SSB and ANA. Often, Sjogren's Syndrome causes these symptoms. RAI itself can damage the salivary glands, and effects usually emerge within the first year, but you'd be more likely to notice oral dryness than swelling. Guest guest
Hi Elaine, Thanks for the advice. Do I have to see my regular GP for these tests or can my Endocrinologist request them? I have an appointment with him on Monday. What exactly are these tests for? SSA, SSB & ANA Thanks. J daisyelaine@... wrote: Hi J, You may want to ask your doctor to run tests for SSA, SSB and ANA. Guest guest
Hi J, ANA are antinuclear antibodies. ANA includes a number of different antibodies that are associated with several different autoimmune diseases. SSA are also known as Ro antibodies and SSB are also known as La antibodies. SSA & SSB, which are types of ANA, are seen in Sjogren's syndrome and systemic lupus. For a diagnosis of Sjogren's certain criteria must be met, including dry eyes, dry mouth, eather a positive test for SSA or a positive minor salivary gland biopsy with a focus score of 1 or greater. Take care, Elaine
