Guest guest
I had my appointment with the " high risk " doc yesterday. Things went surprisingly well. It was actually a different member of the team, a woman. She asked why I chose not to increase my PTU from 300 mgs to 450 mgs as the other doctor had requested. I informed her that I have done some research on the matter and that everything and everyone I had talked to had mentioned 300 mgs. as being the highest dosage to safely take during pregnancy. She kind of rolled her eyes at that fact and told me that she had never heard that before. She also added that most women are maintained at 300 mgs throughout their entire pregnancy and do not go below that amount. (Okay, I know this doesn't sound like the most positive visit, but it does get better). I told her that other than that fact, I was very happy with the way my labs were looking. She agreed that they were getting better, but that the FT3 was not yet in range. I indicated to her that we had only had one month to gauge my FT3 on and that I felt like it was falling into place rather nicely. She then told me that what was really important was how I was feeling and that if I felt good, she would let me decide how to let this progress. I told her that I wanted to have my labs run again in 2 weeks and she agreed wholeheartedly. I also told her that if, at any point, I began not feeling good I would have my labs taken and she said that was a good idea. I do not actually see her again for another 6 weeks, but hopefully we will be able to adjust (lower)the meds before that time. Have a great day! Lori P.S. I don't know if I gave the impression in my previous post of Wednesday that I was scared to stand up to these doctors. Believe me, I am not by any means, it just bothers me that any of us need to get ourselves prepared in advance to deal with potentially hostile doctors who really do not know what they are talking about!
