Did you know that this is not a low dose of iodine, that it is a low dose of radioactive iodine, either I-123 or I-131? http:\ //www.bidmc.harvard.edu/radiology/nuclear/thyroidScanUptk.html My theory for why RAI is pushed on us is that it is cost effective for the insurance companies and it guarantees a hypothyroid patient for life. Guest guest
Taking RAI takes all of about 10 minutes for them to explain to you how to take it and then explain what to do after taking it, sign " informed " consent form....they plop the pill in your hand (as they back out of the room) then they get you out of there ASAP. The reason they tell you it takes 3 or 4 hours (which it does) is because they don't even have it sent over to the hospital until you show up. So the reason you are sitting in the waiting room for hours is for the atomic vitamin to show up. Safe stuff, huh? Who was it that showed up for RAI then decided against in the 11th hour and got blasted for changing her mind because " who is going to pay for this now " ?
