Guest guest
To add to 's post, The most important things to avoid to keep TED from worsening are cigarette smoke and smoking and radioactive iodine ablation of the thyroid. Both these factors seem to be documented in the research. For people who are smokers, it's a different decision in that the cigarettes serve as a stress reducer, although I think if I were in that position I'd switch to the nicotine patch, inhaler, or gum. As with the rest of Graves', stress reduction and dietary changes help. It's also important to protect the eyes by using lots of artificial tears, preservative free, during the day, and a thicker drop like Genteel (my dr. recommended Laqui-Lube) at night. Some people also tape the eyes shut at night. The idea is to prevent damage to the exposed surface of the eye. Best wishes,
