We've already spoken to the pre-school about giving him some class time with an aide at a regular pre-school next year. They actually suggested it. Of course we'd like to do that rather than just throw him into a kindergarten class the following fall. Even if it's going to be special ed, it's still not going to be like where he is now. That concerns me greatly. My other concern though is this pattern that's starting to build of bad behavior in school... followed by punishment. I can see two ways of looking at it. 1) our son is letting us know he belongs in a more 'normal' environment 2) our son is letting us know he doesn't belong in a more 'normal' environment... yet How can we tell which? >How long did it take until you saw results with the >diet? We removed casein on Thanksgiving Day. We removed gluten on Dec. 15 or so. Somewhere right in there, he got a bite of someone else's bagel and cream cheese, and a sip of milk. He pooped four times that day. My wife couldn't remember the last time he'd pooped so much in one day. He turned four last January. Like what we've read others say, I'm afraid in some respects the effects of the diet appear more clearly during cheating episodes. Our son was making good progress before the diet. That's a fact. He started talking over a year ago, said 'dad' (about his 3d or 4th word) last year on Father's Day. Started saying 3 word sentences shortly after that. So I can't give you a clear, honest answer. Except to add that he recently got fully toilet trained. But we've noticed that he'll intentionally pee on the floor, not through his pants but using the floor instead of the bathroom, only after a cheating instance. Within a week... 5 days maybe of cheating and he's almost bound to do this behavior. Otherwise he hasn't. Freaky stuff. >How strict did you have to be with the diet? We're becoming stricter as time goes on, and I think that's the right thing to do. From what I understand, the longer one of our kids is off the casein and gluten, the more a little bit will affect them. We now only buy milk and bread and otherwise the whole house is gf/cf. I've been gf/cf for over a month to keep my son company. And am thankfully losing weight on it too. I plan on staying on this as long as my son does. >For >example, my son went to sunday school and grabbed a >vanilla wafer before the teacher could stop him. It happens. I've been talking to my son about the diet, and he's learning. Obviously at some age it will be our kid's decision and not ours. Scary thought. >Because I have just started the diet I have so many >questions and thoughts. Where did you go for answers? Right here. Our pediatrician, who we actually like says she knows nothing about the diet at all. Marty
