Guest guest
Hi Jo, I also have a little girl, sister of previous ASD brother, who is skinny. From what I've read, if your child drops 2 or more major % lines on the growth chart (and be sure you are using CDC 2000 available on the CDC website, the most recent), or if she drops below 3%, it is called " Failure To Thrive " or FTT. At that point the ped. (with your encouragement, or insistence) should start looking for causes. About 90% of FTT is due to neglect. The remaining 10% are due to organic reasons, celiac being the first. I would suggest doing bloodwork for anti-tissue transglutaminase and a Total IgA. These are two different tests. Medical workers get them confused because the transglutaminase is an IgA, but not the same as a total. You need both because an unusually high number of celiacs are IgA deficient enough to make the transglutaminase negative, even when celiac disease is present. We just finished going through this with my little girl. Good luck, Blake's mom, encephalopathy, 5.10 's mom, skinny, not celiac, but gaining on GFCFdiet, 2.9 sister with schizophrenia > Subject: Re: Question about SIBLINGS... > I am worried because she's > tiny for her age and hasn't even doubled her birth weight yet, she lost an > ounce since our last doctor's visit and she'll be tested to see why she isn't > growing> > Jo (South Carolina)
