Guest guest
Hi, I have some background info and then questions. My son, Ben is almost 5. He was just dx with Sensory Integration Dysfunction (DSI), Anxiety Disorder, and a possible Sleep Disorder (we're going to look further into that to see if it's more bad sleep practices or really a problem). He was also dx with systemic yeast and g/c sensitivites. What my dev.ped. wants us to do first is put Ben on a yeast free diet and a long term course of oral antifungal meds. After about 3-4 weeks of that if we still need to see more improvement she wants me to start casein free first and then progress to gluten free if we need to. All the while this is going on he will be having OT for his DSI, and later inte fall he will have ST for an Expressive Speech Impairment. She also wants me to do EFA supps too. My question is: Have many of you done the yeast free diet? How was it? I have Super Sugar Boy in Ben. The yeast free thing is gonna kill us all (emotionally). I am terrified! I also feel like such a hypocrite because I am Super Sugar Mom.<g> However, I don't think I can go thru Ben's withdrawals (and OH they are gonna be bad) without having some chocolate to fall back on myself. (Now , before anyone says anything...YES it HAS occurred to me that I could have a yeast problem, but I am 35 and unwilling to go down that road for myself just yet.<vbg>) Do any of you that did/ are doing the YFdiet have any practical coping tips? Are there ANY kind of yfree breads available? Any kind of sugar free chocolates out there that I could use to at least fake out his sweet tooth? Would it be okay if he had a few Equal or Splenda sweetened things? I really don't like nutrasweet but would just a little be bad? I did the Feingold Diet with Ben for several months with good results and I thought THAT was hard! That was a peice of cake compared to what I am being asked to do now. I had decided to scrap feingold 2 months back because we could never eat out, HA! now we're really gonna be stuck at home....and we LOVE to eat out! YIKES. However, if I try to do feingold, on top of yeast free on top of gfcf, Ben will never have anything fun to eat. And YES I think it's important for food to be fun because it is so much a part of our lives. So, how have any of you made these diets fun? I need any tip, and resource, any advice, and all the support you can give me. I am a very easily overwhelmed person and am getting more scared by the minute about all this because it seems like more it will be more than I'll be able to handle, yet I do so much want to help my Ben. Thanks for reading this long post. Oh, I have a dh, and a typical 11 yr. ds, and a so far typical 15 mos.dd, Autumn (she is my only immunization-free child). We are also homeschoolers(unschoolers) and live in the Atlanta area.
