Guest guest
Hi Barb, Good to hear from you. I was wondering what the heck happened to you. :-) Ucky poo on the 'sickness'. I agree holding off on any changes right now seems very wise. Could avoid a whole bunch of confusion, that has the potential to add months to getting it right. TSH 2.83 (0.45-5.50) Thyroxine, Free 1.13 (0.75-2.00) Have you looked back and studied you own TSH lag time ? In addition... anytime I was pretty darn ill, my FT4 dropped. My body was really busy converting it into T3 to try to aid healing. You will find info on this in different articles, referring to it as 'non thyroidal illness'. In the articles they mostly speak of seriously ill patients confined to the hospital. And I 'thought' that left ME out of such an equation. BUT.. the second time it happened, I asked the list, and also asked Elaine. The answer was, " it is possible " . Then the third time, I saw a definite pattern. MY FT4 does drop when I am ill. Mine were all abcessed teeth... but your situation could be bad enough , that this might affect that FT4. Thus, waiting makes more sense than not. While your symptoms do sound hypo, they could be from the illness, or they could be hyper ya know. Silly I agree on the every other day bit. What is she thinking ? Oh well... she must only treat hypo patients... they DO take replacement hormone every other day... it is a LONG lasting drug. IT takes 8 weeks to work. :-( Heck... WE feel the change in one hour ! Of course, if you tell her THAT, she will probably refer you to a nice shrink. She has no clue, and her tittle tells her, she is the only one that is correct ...in her opinion. So... whatever.... Just split the dose even and don't waste your breath. My former endo STILL believes patients can take 600 mg. of PTU first thing in the morning and be good to go. Trouble is you will not have the strength to put your pants on before you struggle through the day. :-( Just once... I want to go to his house and force 600 mg of PTU down HIS throat first thing in the morning, before he is even dressed, and see how HE does! Bet he would even start to believe we CAN feel it in an hour. But then.... I would REALLY like to do this for a month, get his labs, and then tell him he is still in the normal range, and please continue this dose for another couple months... and if he refuses, and is non compliant, I will no longer be able to treat him. ~sigh~ Oops... got off track there... Hang in there Barb. I really think sitting on hold makes the most sense for right now. You really don't have accurate info to make a change. And I am not speaking of the elusive FT3 when I say this. -Pam L- 3 1/2 years Graves', TED, and PTU. Remission due to SLOW reduction of PTU (despite an incompetent endo ! ), improved lifestyle, excellent nutrition, herbs, and looking at the big picture. Pills alone only help the symptoms. We must help our bodies to heal.
