Guest guest
I quit smoking at the end of 1998, used the patch for about a year, and then began using nicotine gum (a low dose but consistent use). I only stopped the gum after my thyroid levels were found to be high last summer (on the theory that it was a stimulant); thyroid tests done earlier, in 2000, 6 months after switching from cigarettes to the patch, were normal. So in my case stopping smoking doesn't seem to have triggered my Graves' (I had several other good triggers, though, from taking kelp to the death of a loved one). It's so hard to quit and those who have quit or are trying have my great respect. B.
