I'm just letting the list know how much I appreciate already getting some

responses to my query on the hair-loss issue.

I'll be replying privately to each individual who responds to me as I wasn't

sure of the list etiquette and didn't want to clog it up with the huge list of

personal " thank-yous " I see my query will generate. :-)

A couple folks have already mentioned how discouraging it is to battle the

loss of your self-image and sense of physical attractiveness, and how this is

such a safe harbor to come to where you can lay that aside. May I say that while

I can't speak as to anyone's level of physical beauty here (and wouldn't if I

could!) the beauty of the souls I see shining here is a wonder to behold.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart and may the good work you seek to do

here come back to you a thousandfold.

Hi ,

Hopefully you'll get a variety of answers on help for thyroid-related hair loss.

One possibility is a suggestion I saw on thyroid-info.com, which is evening

primrose oil, 500 mg twice a day. I've been taking this for years to help with

PMS and asthma. I fortunately having had much hair loss except briefly while I

was hypo, so I can't speak from experience.\

I went back to thyroid-info.com to make sure the info was retrievable, and when

I searched under " hair loss " a number of references came up, so I imagine there

are other suggestions.

I've found it an extra hard thing to be sick plus less attractive than before,

even at my ripe old age of 49. Hopefully your friend's friend can start feeling

better and turn the hair loss around soon. In the meantime you can point out

that Graves_support is a group that won't care about her looks except to

empathize.

Best wishes,

B.

Hi :

For over 2 years I was losing so much hair that I became unwilling to

wash or brush my hair, I couldn't deal with all the clumps that would

come off. I didn't do anything about it since there were, as you

said, many other issues to deal with, but I was very upset about it,

and understand your friend's feelings. I was particularly worried

about my hairline, which was thinning.

In my case, my hair continued to fall out well after I went into

remission, maybe because of other hormonal changes due to the early

menopause, but recently it has started to resolve, and the good news

is I still have plenty of hair left - seemed to me that my hair was

also growing faster at that time . . .

One thing that made me feel better and I think also encouraged hair

growth was a major hair cut - my hair did not look as sparse in the

front when it wasn't weighed down by long length.

Regards,
