Guest guest
Hi Elaine, I have heard that people with Graves' should stay out of the sun is this true and why? I have been in remission for a month but I was sitting in the sun for about thirty min. and I became very sick my heart felt like I was hyper again. My heart feels like it's skipping a beat. Could I have made myself go hyper again? I thought that after I took a cold shower that I would feel better but I don't. It's been a week and I still feel sick and my heart is jumping around but not as much as it did when I was hyper. I go back to my endo next week and I had blood work done two days ago so I'll know more then. Thank you for your time. Kim H.
Guest guest
Hi Kim, You will get better answers to your questions once you learn the proper terminology for Graves'. The word remission is not possible once you have RAI. RAI causes an increase in the antibodies that cause Graves'. RAI only kills the thyroid so it does not respond to the antibodies. Though they can cause other problems. Remission is attained ONLY once a patient has gone the full course of anti thyroid drugs, had a TSI antibody test of less than 2% , and been OFF all anti thyroid drugs with no hyper lab results for one YEAR. We can help you much better with the full picture in front of us, in one post. I happened to remember your post from the other day, saying you had done the RAI. But this does not always happen, since we have about 700 members now. See how we are easily confused. :-) Depending on when the RAI was done, the answer to the sun question may have more to it. Adding a signature to be used in the group is one easy way to not repeat yourself each time. Perhaps it could include date of RAI, current labs and dose of meds. At least something to help us better help you. We all want the best for all our fellow Gravies. :-) -Pam L - 3 1/2 years Graves', TED, and PTU. Remission due to SLOW reduction of PTU (despite an incompetent endo ! ), improved lifestyle, excellent nutrition, herbs, and looking at the big picture. Pills alone only help the symptoms. We must help our bodies to heal.
Guest guest
Hi Pam, I thought that I was in remission since I wasn't hyper any more. I'm so new at all of this and I thought that I was finally understanding what Graves' disease is. But as you and others can see I still have alot to learn. I did do the RAI in Feb. of this year and I went hypo last month and the endo started me on synthroid 100mcg once a day. I've been doing better except for the swollen eyes. I'm sorry if my questions are confusing, but like I said I've got so much to learn and some times it's overwhelming for me. I'm so sad to know that I will never make it to remission because I did the RAI and I pray that I understood what you said. I hope this helps alittle. Kim H. 7 months Graves' RAI Feb,03. Synthroid 100mcg. once a day. -Pam L - wrote: Hi Kim, You will get better answers to your questions once you learn the proper terminology for Graves'.
