Hi , have to say the few days I spent on once daily PTU when switching from Carbimazole convinced me it needs to be taken at least twice daily. Twice daily worked for me at the same total dose i.e. I was on 50mg once daily, and went to 25mg twice daily, and went from continuous sweating to near normal. I think the doctors just aren't use to medications with such short biological half lives. On the other hand my blood test results continue to look much like yours, except my TSH is usually a bit higher, despite me being on 25mg thrice daily. Still I guess it is how you feel that counts. Simon, feeling quite well, the holiday helped. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE+04KxGFXfHI9FVgYRAj3/AJ9ruVIUfJUm93ldB1NJhIM7AtK8mgCgqMpD TtUrRW06K0NPfEdTGPSjcbA= =9WPH -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I still think I was doing better un-medicated but as this is my new endo and she has so far humored me I am now humoring her. I'll take the medication and see where I am in a month. in MA, USA Diagnosed w/Graves, March 1997 Glad I've refused RAI Treatment and Surgery!!! On lose dose of PTU (2 50 mg. per day) (was in remission for three years 2000-2003)
Guest guest
Hi , According to the literature, you need a maintenance dose of between 100-150 mg PTU for results, ince you've been on medss. The initial starting dose is generally 300 mg daily since you still have thyroid hormone stored in your gland. Once the stored hormone is gone, after 6-8 weeks, you only need the low maintenance dose to help reduce new thyroid hormone production. If you've been on ATDs before, you should be able to get by with 100-150 mg daily, but if you're just starting out, you may need the higher dose for the first 6-8 weeks. Best, elaine
