Guest guest
Hi has insulin resistance, and is still doing GH for now. We are supposed to have certain blood tests run every 6 months instead of yearly, and we have to watch his weight for height ratio very closely. Dr H considers B to have VERY low muscle tone. We're supposed to get B down to the 5% or lower on the weight-for-height chart. does protest his shot most evenings, but it's pretty much just telling me " no shot " . We do his shot with his evening meds, when he's awake. I just matter-of-factly do the shot, tell him we're all done, praise him for being such a big boy, and we never even get close to tears. Personally, I hated the thought of giving B a shot, and I'm still not thrilled with doing it. BUT I do it every evening that he's here, and we're both just kind of accepting that it has to be done. It was really easy to do his GH before he started getting his Synergis vaccines, but since we had to start those up again, he's protested more. I don't blame him much as the shots from the Synergis almost always leave bruises on both thighs, and cause him a lot of pain. Guest guest
, Synergis is the vaccine for RSV. suffered with it during the end of his first year, and it was horrible!! He spent 5.5 weeks in the hospital, 4.5 of that in the PICU, and 3.5 of that on a vent. As soon as he got out, they started him on the Synergis, which our ped mistakenly thought he wouldn't qualify for because he wasn't a preemie! We did the vaccines (they're given once a month) all last year, and were able to keep him out of the hospital even though he had several colds. From what I understand, doing a third season of the vaccines is almost unheard of, but B's Pulmonologist is worried about his lungs, so she and the Ped recommended it, especially because he turns 3 in Dec and is starting preschool in Jan. Dr H has us controlling the insulin resistance by controlling his weight right now. Because B has very low muscle tone, he puts on weight by adding body fat, especially around his middle section, instead of muscle, a problem we're hoping the effects of GH will help counteract. We test his BS every morning and evening, and chart it for the endo. Not that our endo here has been much help. I can't even get him to give us a clearer picture of hypo-g and insulin resistance. Everything I've learned has either been from the convention, or reading research. I'm sure you'll do fine with the shots, and who ever said that we would get to like doing what our kids needed, huh??? LOL Like I said, I still don't like giving the shots, but you sound like me in that I do what I have to do when I have to do it! I highly recommend Dr H. She has worked miracles with , and has pulled him through more tight spots than I can count! She has always been right where his health is concerned, even when other Drs have disagreed. She will tell you like it is, and doesn't sugar-coat things, just to make it easier to swallow. And she loves our kids!! Hugs for you all!!
