Guest guest
Hey Jody!! We have exactly the same problem with our GI here at home! She feels that Dr H is crossing over into HER territory!! This is even after I have described Dr H to her as an Endo with a GI sub-specialty!! Here is the thinking with the two different drugs. Losec (or Prilosec) is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI). The way this particular type of drug works is that it kills the proton pumps (or acid producing tubes) in the stomach lining, they sluice off, and can no longer produce stomach acid. Losec can be compounded (turned into a liquid) by the pharmacy. Zantac is a Histamine2Antagonists (H2A) and it's job is to neutralize the stomach acid. We were given several options for B's reflux meds. His PPI is Prevacid, and he takes 15mg daily. For a while we gave him 2-7.5mg doses, one in the morning, one in the evening. We recently started giving him the entire 15mg dose once a day, and using Zantac at the opposite time. However, we were told that we could keep the PPI twice a day, and still use the Zantac, if we were willing to wait at least one hour between the two meds. If I can answer anything else, or help in any way, please let me know! Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 31 months, 22.5#, 31.8 " , G-Tube)
