Thanks, Sandy P.S. Graves and diabetes is rampant in both sides of my family. My mom died at 64 from a heart attack that I know was undiagnosed Graves. Guest guest
Sandy and , I am so happy to hear your positive stories! It is great to know that avoiding iodine was key for you, Sandy. I am taking similar precautions, though not perfect (I eat out a couple of times a week). I am almost off the ATDs as well, as my thyroid levels have been low on 1/4 pill a day. Hopefully I will be able to stay off.
Guest guest
Thank you! that was straightforward and easy to understand. Something we can do easily while figuring all this out! Cindy IN Remission! Haven't been here in awhile but wanted to tell the newbies especially that I was diagnosed with Graves last Aug. 2002 and was put on 2 Inderal immediately for my heart. By October I was on 6 PTU and 2 Inderal. I immediately soon as diagnosed in August stayed off of all iodine and used uniodized salt and all fish. Ate all food from scratch, goitrens etc. Watched all salt intake. Nothing like fast food, hamburger helper or packaged junk. No ragu, canned soups, packaged macaroni and cheese. etc. Canned vegetables low salt, frozen vegetables and don't go over 150-200 mg. of salt on anything. I was diagnosed as being in remission in April and last Friday the 17th. of October told I don't have to come back to endo till 6 months. So, it can be done. I still have my thyroid. Astonished more studies are not done with taking away salt and iodine and junk. I don't do anything weird. I take eckerds multivitamin. That is all. Just thought I would tell my story to people to at least reduce their salt with Graves and stay away from iodine. This forum helped save my life and thyroid and I will be forever grateful. Thanks, Sandy
