It may surprise many of you but once our endo switched our daughter

to RAW milk from pasteurized we saw dramatic changes in her health

and growth. The best way to explain the reason for this would be to

first explain the drawbacks to drinking pasteurized milk and then

the lack of proper nutrition that dairy cows receive. I have a

nutrition background so I hope you don't mind some the details.

Not only does pasteurization kill the friendly bacteria thru its

heating process, it also greatly deminishes the nutrient content of

the milk. Up to 66 percent loss of vitamin A, D, C and E are lost

in the pasteurization process. Vitamins B6 and B12 are completely

distroyed. It also destroys benefical enzymes, antibodies hormones

and lipase (an enzyme that breaks down fat), which impairs fat

metabolism and the ability to properly absorb fat soluable vitamins

A and D. We have all been led to believe that milk is a wonderful

source of calcium, when in fact, pasteurization makes calcium and

other minerals less available.

Considering that modern pasteurized milk is produced and processed,

it's no wonder that millions are allergic to it. As many are well

aware an allergic reaction to dairy can cause symptoms like

diarrhea , vomiting, stomach pain, cramping, gas, bloating, nausea,

headaches, sinus and chest congestion, and a sore, or scratchy

throat.

RAW milk on the other hand is real milk and a source of complete

protein and is loaded with enzymes. It contains benefical bacteria

that protect against pathogens and contribute to a healthy flora in

the intestines. The key to make sure that the RAW milk is only from

dairy cows that are fed GRASS and are allowed to ROAM FREELY on the

pasture.

Most of today's cows are instead fed a diet of mostly grain, and

other things that they would not normally eat. The bulk of the feed

consists of corn and soy, which receives 80 percent of all

herbicides used in the US. Like humans, animals need nutrients to

thrive and be healthy. Obviously the feed given cows is not

intended to provide proper nourishment. Insterad, farmers are

interested in stuffing whatever they can into the cows to bulk them

up as quickly as possible. This can quickly lead to sick animals

and heavy doses of drugs. These drugs end up in the milk of the

dairy cows, as do trans fats from bakery wastes, undigested proteins

from soy and animal foods and aflatoxins from mold. To make matters

worse, levels of vitamin A and D drop off precipitously when cows

are given any feed other than GRASS.

The typical milk tank (after pasteurization) has either salmonella

or E. coli detected about 30 percent of the time. In comparison,

the RAW milk I get from the Organic Pastures Company has never had

one pathogen (salmonella, E. coli or listeria). The state of

California tests all of this company's RAW dairy products multiple

times per month. For the past four years this dairy has produced a

full line of RAW organic dairy products which are sold in numerous

stores here in California including Wholefoods. For those of you

who don't live in California you can buy frozen RAW milk directly

from this dairy. Don't worry, it thaws out in the frig in a couple

days and has the same nutritional value. The only drawback I see is

the expense but getting the right foods for our kids is worth every

cent.
