Guest guest
I just spoke with a friend of mine, who I haven't talked to in ages. We went to high school together and have not kept in touch in the past 5 or 6 yrs. Today when I read that email about having one grey hair, that it left us open for thyroid disorders. I thought instantly of my friend, Sherry, who has had grey hair forever. Even when we were in high school. Today I took the time to call her. She has moved, but we had a nice conversation and then she started telling me about her 17 yr old son who's suddenly became ill. He's having trouble with his joints (ankle's mostly) swelling. His throat is also sore. He's normally very athletic and has had a hard time moving around this past week. They at first though that he'd hurt himeself playing football, but that's not the case. His hands are also swelling if I heard her right. He's been tested for Lupus, and a good friend of their's (another dr) said that from what the tests show, it's as if he's got antibodies that are attacking his system? It was so odd, that on the day I see that email and thought instantly of her, she tells me what is suddenly happening to her 17 yr old. No mention of weight loss in his case, just mostly hurting and not being able to get around and not feeling all that well. He hurt so bad that he wasn't able to drive his dad's stick shift truck which he normally drives. Of course, they are concerned. But no answers, only a referral to a Rheumatologist (sp)? She's promised to let me know what is going on when they go to the new dr, so I should hear something if she's told anything on Wednesday at their appt. I had told her about all the things I've had happen since the onset of my hyperT/Graves, but she doesn't seem to think it's autoimmune in nature (actually she doesn't want it to be). I was at a loss of what on earth to think. Any thoughts on these strange symptoms? I'm just praying that everything is okay for him and that they find out quickly what is wrong. How odd, but we always seem to get in touch with each other when we need to be talking. She is fairly calm about it, as they have no clue what the symptoms mean, but her dr friends explanation of him seeming to have antibodies that were attacking his system and causing the problem stuck out like a sore thumb to me. There are so many autoimmune possibilities, I'd prolly be scared spitless, but she is a much calmer person than I am. lol Sandy~Houston
