Guest guest
Hi , It was great to hear from you but I'm sorry your Graves' is still " burning. " It could be that with some coaching from this group you could get it under control. I'm not sure that it's a question of switching to Tap, although some people feel it has fewer side effects. Instead you might need to make some adjustments in how you take it and in other lifestyle factors. An important point is to take the daily dosage at eight-hour intervals. Doctors will feel you it's not necessary but the mfg. insert that comes with the PTU says to do this. Many people have found they could drop their dose if they're taking it in thirds rather than once a day. You can try to eliminate iodine in your diet and cut down on caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, sugar, etc. to try to help your immune system heal. Now that you're dose has been raised you'll need labs in the near future--maybe four weeks. If it " works too well " it will make you hypothyroid, which makes it harder to cope. Maybe we can help your endo help you better! Best wishes, My latest doctor just gave me the run down on why he thinks should start considering RAI to treat my Hyperthyroidism. I've been hyper for about 6 years now. My PTU has just been increased from 100 miligrams a day to 200. He says my hyperthyroid is like a " fire under a lid " -that you can't cover it forever and it wont burn out. Thanks for this list reminder. - -
