Guest guest
Hi Jen, It sounds like she's hypothyroid since she has hair loss and probably inflammation of her thyroid stump. Some hypothyroid symptoms are very similar to hyper ones including insomnia and palpitations. It could also be that her T4 is high but she's not converting and has very little T3. She should make sure that her doctor is testing FT4 and FT3 so that she can get on the right type of med as well as the right dose. This happened to me while I was on Synthroid. I now use Armour, which has both T4 and T3. Hope this helps, Elaine
Guest guest
Hi , Your Aunt should have some current blood work done, Free T4, and Free T3 and TSH, and then adjust med's accordingly to that and her symptoms. Hair could fall out for either hypo and hyper. Have her right down every symptom that she has, how she sleeps, how her skin is, puffy face. 3 months is too long to wait, I would insist on 6 weeks at first, them more blood test, then another 6 weeks, until she feels better. I had RAI, and never felt well again until they changed my dose to .075 synthroid and 5 mcg cytomel (T3) three times a day. The cytomel made all the difference in the world for me. But make sure your aunt goes in with a written list of how she feels, or else she'll forget when she's there, and make sure they do the blood test SHE want's done, not just her TSH which they may try to get away with. She's not feeling well, and it's time to take action and not give up till she gets what she wants. ( you can get what you want with manners). Good Luck, Jen M Help for my aunt > Hi, > > My aunt just called and I told her I would email all of you with her questions. She had RAI about a year ago and has never felt right...she is now on synthroid and has been feeling like her dose is too high. Yesterday big clumps of her hair fell out and she has been feeling like she is choking...actually gagging too. > Her endo told her she needs more synthroid(SP.?) and told her she would check her levels in 3 months. What do you all think? Thanks again! (4months pregnant and feeling better:-) > > >
