Guest guest
Hi just piping in here as I was off line for 2 months with broken puter. Now back online with super puter and new email. First I am doing fine, on 50 mgs PTU but not quite in remission yet. ph is 21 months now and I still can't break from the breast at night. Once school is done in two weeks I need to start to wean off at night. That brings us to the PTU and breast feeding issue. As you all know I breast fed my last three babies while on PTU. I knew the risks but I weighed it with the benefits, ie antibodies, less colic, less allergies and I chose the benefits. But this is a personal decision. My babie's levels were fine and show no ill effects at this time. Maybe I was a little selfish but I couldn't imagine not breast feeding. I think the stress of not doing so with me might have even worsened my graves in some respects. Breast feeding helped to calm me and the baby, keeping me slightly less stress free (if this is possible with 5 kids LOL). Now for the OT: I have been very busy with my kids of course, but more importantly I have been busy with a blood donor schedule for my neighbor's little boy. He was recently diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer (200 new cases a yr) called rhabdomyosarcoma. What is even more sobering is a little girl in my daughter's school was diagnosed in Jan, Both times I was the first to find out after the parents. So I got the full force of their shock. Both children were given a 30% chance in NJ but are being treated by a top doc at Sloan Kettering in NY. They are given a 70% chance with this experimental But heavy duty protocol. Please pray for Isabella and and their parents as they go through this tragic ordeal, And while you are at it give a little prayer for me so that I may have the knowledge and the right words to offer them (remember I am a ped RN). I have been so touched by these families and their courage. It puts life in perspective. Anyway sorry to ramble.. Hope I can respond a little more often, we will see.
