Guest guest
My older NT son was in the local elemantary school's preschool program this past year. There was an outbreak of chicken pox this spring. My son, Andy, who was not vaccinated against it, got it pretty bad. Two weeks later, our GFCFson, , got it as well. Andy got it from the kids who were vaccinated. Almost all of the kids who were exposed got it, regardless of wether they were vaccinated or not. The vaccinated children had milder cases, but they still were contagious and had to be kept at home the same as my child. I am so glad that my kids weren't vaccinated! Now it is over with, and I don't have to ever worry about it again because they were pretty covered. The reason that we didn't vaccinate is that when Andy was little, our pediatrician did not recommend it because he had heard that the researchers weren't sure if the immunity would last a person's entire life, or if it would wear off in middle or old age and leave serious complications due to an outbreak. Imagine sixty years from now what it would be like if these vaccinations started wearing off. There might be a serious epidemic among the elderly because their chicken pox vaccination wore off! I can see where I might want to get my child immunized if they were 16 years or so old and hadn't had them yet, but in this day and age, most chicken pox complications can be held at bay as long as the parent is smart enough to know when they need to be seen and how to care for them.
