Guest guest
Hi Barb, I had labs done 60 days after adding the Synthroid, though I could have come in earlier if symptoms warranted it. Apparently it takes at least four weeks for labs to reflect the Synthroid. I haven't heard of Synthroid raising TSI, but just the opposite (some people suspect the natural hormone, Armour, of this). I've never had TSI done and am about to argue for it tomorrow as my endo announced at the last visit it was time to start lowering my PTU (about 1 year since starting it). In my case I simply added the Synthroid and didn't have to change my PTU dose. Someone here may have advice about the sequence for raising your Tap and adding the Synthroid. I'm not sure if you'd want to do both at once or do one first. But in any case, despite what 's doctor wrote the combination seems to have worked well to keep me from getting hypo while taking a fairly large dose of ATD. I did feel a rise in energy and alertness and also lost a little weight shortly after I started the Synthroid (which made me worry I was getting hyper again) but things soon stabilized and the labs 60 days later matched my pre-Graves' labs. best wishes. Re: Need Help Regarding TSI/Hypo - Hi - Thank you so much for this. I really do need to hear this right now. I was going to start the Synthroid today, but I'm finding I'm really scared of either raising my TSI as a result, or becoming hyper quickly, or whatever. I think I will have my T's and TSH done again tomorrow - it will have been three more weeks as I've been going. It may help me make up my mind, if I have gone further hypo. Then I can go ahead and start on Friday, if I have my labs back tomorrow afternoon. I see my endo Friday anyway. Have you been monitoring your TSI by chance? I'm wondering if mine will go higher still if I add the T4. It sounds like if I'm starting with 25 mcg. of synthroid, I should be on 5 mg. of Tap anyway. I think someone on mediboard confirmed these doses as well. So I will increase my Tap to 5 mg. How often were you having your labs done after starting the Synthroid?
