Hi

My Son Christian was dx by Dr Stanhope at 22 months old.He had a fasting

glucose test done at 23 months old which he failed and it was for this

reason that he was started on Gh at 2 years old.He was way off the growth

chart and showing no signs of catch up.Christian has done amazing on GH,now

on the 25 centile for weight and height.Christian is eight now and I think

Dr S is still starting children as young as 2.Unlike Dr H he doesn't seem to

worry about weight for height ratio's although he has become more pro tube

feeding now.Christian sees him once a year and a local paed once a year.It

is definatly a lot more laid back here.Christian had his bone age and blood

work done prior to starting and another a year later but none since. He is

measured standing and sitting, weighed and head measured and his skin is

pinched yearly.Although there is a vast difference in intervention after

starting Gh there does not appear to be any difference in side effects or

how well the the children do.

Dr Stanhope is based at Great Ormond Street Hospital In London and is very

Approachable.I hope this helps

Thanks a lot Joanne. I e-mailed Dr. Stanhope on Monday and got a

nice reply from his PA saying that he is on vacation and will get

back back to me on his return. My endo mentioned that he is more

comfortable with Dr Stanhope's approach rather than Dr. H's methods

as related to feeding etc. He also mentioned while Dr S's work has

been published, Dr. H's work is not. My own literature search etc

shows the same.

Anyway, thanks for the input. I am sure each child is different,

and I (unfortunately it will be me instead of the doctors especially

if I get conflicting treatment methods from my endo and Dr. H) will

finally figure out what is best for my child before we start on the

GH route.
