Guest guest
Hi all! I have been around checking on the list when I can but I wanted to catch you up a little on Matt. It has been a busy end of summer as school started August 9th here in Georgia. We enrolled him in a couple of weeks at the end of last year and got the IEP ball rolling but all the testing has been done this year. He had a very rough week the first week, but seems to be settling into his routine. He is in private OT for Sensory Integration Disorder, which I think is a big piece of his school issues. We are now doing brushing, trampoline, soon to start with a listening program and have an appointment with a behavioral opthalmologist. It all seems a little " hokus pokus " if you know what I mean, but it is worth a try. The IEP meeting today was really great, and I can't believe what an awesome school district we are in. Matt qualifies for a learning disability and will be pulled out for some special ed time each day, and speech twice a week. They are also going to have him evaluated by the school OT. I am a little concerned about all the time away from the class, but we all think if we address some issues aggresively, we may see much improvement. While it is nice to finally have the professionals say that there is something identifiably wrong with his learning and behavior, it is equally hard to hear. I am sure many of you can relate! On the good side, he seems to be gaining weight with the Duocal powder and frequent peanut butter snacks. I think this kid gets about 700 calories a day in P.B. alone. He started cross country and seemed to like it and is looking forward to turning 8 in October. Our new house is coming together, we just need to decide on some new paint colors for the inside and decide about some minor remodeling. It has been a busy summer, moving is always hard, but we are fortunate to have great friends here to help, and great friends on this list to listen! Thank you all! I would LOVE to hear any success stories, or any thing that might be related to SID. Beth H.
