Guest guest
I'm glad somebody brought this up, because it's been one of the toughest issues for us to. My son is very close to normal now, and goes to his Sunday School class with no problem. My NT, but I think almost celiac, daughter goes to the nursery with no problem. But they feed them both gluten snacks every time. We have diarrhea today, hmmm. I hate for them to feel " different " and wish they could tolerate a few cheeze nips once a week. My son knows better, he knows what has wheat, but I think this is his little chance to get some without me there. He always tells me what they had if I ask, and I don't get mad because I don't want him to stop being honest, and I really do understand the peer pressure. I know maybe I'm not being very strong to let this happen, but I appreciate the chance to vent. I could try bringing snacks for everybody, but for 2 classes - 20 kids/week, I don't know if I will get the energy to cook all day Saturday so we can go to one hour of Sunday School. And the communion issue. At our church, even the 5 - 6 year olds can take communion. That is too young in my opinion, but my son sees his friends taking it, he thinks I won't let him because it is wheat. And the deeper communion issue, that we are all supposed to be sharing this common food, it's just tough that it works for most people, but not us. Do we stay left out and not take it? Are we being " disobedient " to our God? UnChrist-like? Separating ourselves from the very people we wish to join? Unforgiven for our sins by not taking? I've read about celiacs & the catholic church going round and round about this too. Maybe we will try this Kirkman Enzymaide. Isn't there another over the counter remedy? Alka Selzer Gold? Is there a " poor man's version " something about grapefruit & baking soda? I'm not thrilled about using medicine every week to counter church.
