Hi Terry, Rapid heartrate has always been my biggest Graves' symptom but I do OK with movies (my boyfriend and his sons go for lots of action). I wouldn't watch something like " Texas Chainsaw Massacre " but never did before either. My heartrate really responds--speeds up, gets irregular, and stays that way for a day or two--to other emotional triggers, though, like the recent unexpected death of a young friend or domestic arguments. It's a problem I never had before Graves' and don't otherwise have these days; I've been on PTU for 9 months, weaned off a calcium channel blocker a month ago, and have been reasonably euthyroid for the last month with the help of some Synthroid. I just had an echocardiogram to check on my mild mitral valve prolapse (supposedly these often accompany Graves') and found some thickening of one flap but no leakage. I understand the thickening can be a side effect of the calcium channel blocker or, I would guess, a result of the vigorous workout my heart's had for the last year or so. I wonder if this all means I should avoid things like roller coasters and sky diving? B.
Guest guest
LOL ! Nope, go on the roller coaster, just stay away from _really_ heart-stressing events...you know...like having to call your insurance company or something! Guest guest
Terry - I don't think you're alone. Mine does go up a bit, but not horribly so. Maybe just in the low 90's. Mostly it's the excitement of it. I've never been a horror movie fan, and most suspense movies aren't very suspenseful anymore. Can see the ending coming a mile away. I think the last one that I was really gripping the edge of my hubby was " Sixth Sense " . Usually I'm able to remember the mantra " it's only a movie " and that calms it down. I remember that type of experience used to be fun _before_ I had Graves'. Now I subconsciously superimpose " am I going hyper? " on top of things like that! Sad, but true, isn't it? stress & hyper symptoms-movies? > Hi folks, > > 's post on what makes her feel hyper has reminded me of a question > I've wanted to ask: Am I alone in being completely unable to watch a > suspenseful, tense or scary movie? Guest guest
Hi , LOL! Those I wouldn't do. When my (now 31 year old) daughter was about 7, we went to Disneyland--and on Space Mountain the seatbelt came loose. I thought we'd both die. That was my last ever roller coaster ride and probably took years off my life. Guest guest
Hi Terry thats funny you mentioned suspensful/scary movies. I just saw 1 of each over the last few days and I just saw a bootleg tape of 28 days later alone and felt fine. I mean I jumped and got tense but I didnt feel so uncomfortable that I had to stop. Thank goodness because horror movies are my fav. fri night activity.
