Guest guest
Hi Regina, Sounds like you've been going through a rough time. I wonder if you are keeping track of your blood work? Are you getting FT3 and FT4 every 4 weeks, and get copies of the results? If so, that should help to guide decisions about dosage. At 02:11 PM 7/25/2003, you wrote: >MY name is Regina from Wv. Guest guest
Hi Regina, Hypothyroidism causes depression and it puts you at risk for eye symptoms. Your doctor may be looking at your TSH. TSH should not be used for monitoring ATD therapy because it takes a long time to rise and can be misleading. If your doctor relies on this test you can easily be hypothyroid. He should monitor your ATD therapy with FT4 and FT3 levels. Even if he is 2 hours away, he should let you have lab tests somewhere closer to your home, like at a local hospital outpatient department. Once you've been on PTU for at least 8 weeks, the maintenance dose is 100-150 mg daily and some people are able to get by on 50 mg alone. Take care, Elaine
