NACD stands for National Association for Child Development. They are

based in Utah and have an office in West Chester, PA. Additionally,

they travel to a number of other US and international sites

regularly. They are not therapists or doctors, but they do evaluate

your child across the board. Then they custom design a program for

you to work with your child every day at home, and they teach you how

to do it via DVD. You pay a reasonable monthly fee, and for that you

can call them with questions about the program. You go back every

three months for a re-evaluation and a new program, which is included

in the monthly fee.

If you are looking for a report with scored testing that you can use

with the school district or some other organization, this is not the

right group. If you are frustrated with the limits of occasional

and/or mediocre therapy, and you think you could do a better job if

someone would just tell you how to do, NACD is perfect for you.

We started taking our son, 5-1/2 years old, to the NACD just five

months ago. (Janice is the real expert.) It's been great. Since my

son's speech is great now, we are working on:

--auditory processing skills

--fine motor strength and tactile awareness

--basic academics to keep him equal or better than his classmates in

math and sight words while we remediate the auditory issues

--vision (trying to change from mixed dominance to right dominant)

We will also be taking our 19 month old baby, as he is showing all

the signs of dyspraxia already. He is pretty communication impaired

and needs speech therapy NOW.

Feel free to email me offline with any additional questions. You can

also check out their website at www.nacd.org. They have

applications, fees, and some information posted there.

P.S. If you are familiar with the Doman family: the NACD was

founded by Bob Doman, nephew of the more famous Glenn Doman. Ellen

Doman is our consultant there.
