Guest guest
Hi , My HMO has a couple of clinical nutritionists (MDs) that it covers as specialists, and one of them was willing to consult on Graves'. I also saw her dietician for a follow-up visit, which was not covered and cost me $20. I went in with my requirements--wanting to evaluate vitamin and calcium levels, needing to establish a high protein but iodine-free diet--and the doctor was extremely helpful. Although not a pro on Graves', she was willing to learn and even to evaluate the weird herbs and supplements I take. She wrote down the name of Elaine's book and Graves'_support for future patients and was willing to read the materials I brought her questioning the benefits of soy, at least for thyroid problems (quite a brave stance currently when soy is being widely promoted as " the good protein " ). For me the most useful aspects were getting help thinking up sources of protein and getting blood tests done for my vitamin levels. I also needed advice on supplementing to rebuild my bones but got that from the endocrinologist, though I'm sure a nutritionist could help with that too. Best wishes,
