Guest guest
I received a few off line letters questioning my statement that Hebrew National products (most of them) were GFCF, so I'm forwarding HN's letter to this list. BTW, I'm glad to see that not everyone believes something just because they heard it here, and I'm forwarding this letter gladly and not out of irritation or anger at being questioned. Of course be sure your package states that it's Kosher. Jeannie Scroll down to read their statement *************************************************** ********************************* March 9, 2001 Ms. Jeannie Simmerer Dear Ms. Simmerer: Thank you for contacting Hebrew National Kosher Foods regarding our products. Our Hebrew National Kosher Beef s, 97% Fat Free s, Reduced Fat Beef s, Beef Bologna and Beef Salami contain Hydrolyzed Soy Protein and our Beef Polish Sausage contains Hydrolyzed Corn Protein. During our Kosher for Passover Production we eliminate Mustard as well as all Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein which includes soy and corn. We are not required by law to change our Ingredients Listing but only to mark our packaging, " Kosher for Passover " . Passover products are available in the stores now. If you choose to freeze our products, we suggest you place the products in some type of freezer bag that can be tightly sealed. As much air as possible should be purged out. Our products can be safely stored for up to six months, but only if the freezing occurs before the expiration of the " sell by " date. Once opened, our products should be consumed within one week or on or prior to the expiration of the " sell by " date when stored at 32 degrees F. We are happy to inform you that there is no wheat gluten, no rye, oats or barley in any of our Hebrew National products, except for our newest product, Hebrew National Beef s in a Blanket which because of the puff pastry does include wheat and gluten. In order to maintain Kosher, dairy and meat products have to be consumed four to five hours apart. Therefore, if a meat product is Kosher it can not contain any dairy (milk) ingredient. Our Kosher products do not contain any dairy or egg. Nor do our Hebrew National products contain any peanuts or peanut derivatives. -2- We do produce some products that do not contain any gluten, such as: All Turkey and sliced Turkey All Corned Beef All Tongue (cooked, pickled, uncooked) The Modified Food Starch in our products can be from a source of Corn or Potato. Modified Potato Starch is listed as such on our ingredient statement, any other starch used in our products would be Corn. Hebrew National takes great pride in its fine reputation for quality products and we value you as a loyal customer. Attached please find a Product List for your convenience. We hope you will continue to enjoy our fine products for many years to come. Sincerely, Kathleen A.
