It's an abbreviation for one of the two ATDs commonly prescribed -

propylthyauricil. (Pardon spelling but I think it's close to phonetic.)

It has a shorter half-life than Tapazole so must be taken 3x/day (not a

bad idea for Tap either), may be slightly carcinognic, is safe for

pregnant and nursing mothers (unlike Tap), and may have a slightly

stronger effect on TSI antibodies IIRC. Oh, it also is rumored to taste

vile (unlike Tap).
