Guest guest
Chrystal, IT DOESN'T WORK!! Save yourself the nasty taste and the horrible side effects, since Castor Oil is a laxative. The only reason why the women who do go into labor after using it is because their bodies were ready. Before you have a baby, your body usually elimiates its waste to allow for the baby to move down. The idea with the castor oil is that it eliminates the waste instead of waiting for your body. I took it and it doesn't work. The baby will come when he is ready and really there isn't much else that will effect that. I know you are tired of being pg, but just remember that every day that little one is swimming inside your safe womb, the stronger and healthier he is getting. These 2 weeks will not last a lifetime and if you induce labor and it isn't ready, you could end up with a very long, unprogressive labor or a c-section. I will pray this time passes quickly for you!! a Castor Oil? Guest guest
I took it, it tastes HORRIBLE but it worked. (If I remember I mixed it with juice but it really didn't mix because it's sooooo thick.) Ponselle Castor Oil? How do you take the castor oil and does it taste horrible? Has it not worked or anyone? Using castor oil as a method of induction of labor does not increase the risk of meconium....that's an urban legend, and 'old (mid)wives tale " ... I have here next to me the clinical study that shows that there is no increased risk...and how effective it is...etc. So no...you drinking castor oil did not cause the meconium in the fluid. > I also spent the last two weeks of my > pregnancy drinking alot of red raspberry leaf tea to try to bring > labor on...don't know how much it helped but it was may more pleasant > than the castor oil, lol. RRL tea is not a uterine stimulant...it does not induce labor. It's a uterine tonic..not medicinal... Guest guest
> Chrystal, > IT DOESN'T WORK!! This really depends on who is using it and when. > Save yourself the nasty taste and the > horrible side effects, since Castor Oil is a laxative. The > only reason why the women who do go into labor after using > it is because their bodies were ready. This goes for ANY type of induction... even a full medical induction with prostiglandins and pitocin won't work if your body isn't ready. however...clinical trial of castor oil in Jan 2000 concluded that... it was considered successful if labor began with 24 hours of dosing. they made sure that all things were equal (equal levels of bishop's scores, same gestations, etc)... those who did not take castor oil, 4.2% began labor within the next 24 hours. Those who did take castor oil, 57.7% began labor within th enext 24 hours. This is statistically significant (to say the least) > Before you have a > baby, your body usually elimiates its waste to allow for the > baby to move down. The idea with the castor oil is that it > eliminates the waste instead of waiting for your body. That's not the idea behind castor oil.. the idea is that it stimulates the bowels which encourages pgel and oxytocin releases....thus encouraging the onset of labor. doesn't actually have to do with 'eliminating waste " ...this is why enemas can work, too (just not as efficiently). > These 2 > weeks will not last a lifetime and if you induce labor and > it isn't ready, you could end up with a very long, > unprogressive labor or a c-section. Guest guest
I tried it at 38 wks 5 days and I didn't go into labor until I was 39 wks 6 days. I think it increased the contractions I was already having but it didn't jumpstart actual labor. It did give me a monster case of diahrrea. It was hard for me to drink. It tasted like an inner tube coated in motor oil, lol, (Though I hear they make " flavorless " , a friend had picked it up for me because it worked for her daughter). I cut it with orange juice, and that only helped a little. The texture was harder for me to handle than the flavor. Well....could you pick up a can of motor oil and chug it down? <shudder> My baby was born with thick meconium, and I had to have a uterine infusion during labor to help clean it all out. To this day, I wonder if my drinking castor oil caused it. I know MANY women who swear by it, and I've heard just as many women say " Don't do it " , but I was at the end of my rope and SO tired of being pregnant...I just wanted to get the show on the road, and be holding my baby! I also spent the last two weeks of my pregnancy drinking alot of red raspberry leaf tea to try to bring labor on...don't know how much it helped but it was may more pleasant than the castor oil, lol. Whether you try it or not, good luck. Hang in there, you are in the home stretch now! I will send your baby " Go toward the light " vibes in hopes that you will be holding him soon! Guest guest
Well, thanks for that info. It helps...I was really feeling guilty. I was told that the RRL tea wouldn't bring on labor but would help my uterus be ready for it. <shrug> I'm still drinking it. Hey, can I ask you a question? If implantation bleeding does occur early in a pregnancy, approximately what cycle day would that happen? Thanks, Shari WLS 8/99 Mommy to Cadence 4/19/04 Re: Castor Oil? > My baby was born with > thick meconium, and I had to have a uterine infusion during labor to > help clean it all out. Guest guest
I guess I should say I didn't take the castor oil until I was 40 weeks exactly....I don't know if it had anything to do with my going into labor, but all I know if I have a health happy little boy next to me and I couldn't be happier if he came with the castor oils help or not! Good luck to you all...I know we all get tired of being pregnant, but think about the joy of holding that new healthy baby in your arms once he or she is born! I know I waited 15 years to be able to bring this little one into my life and I wouldn't change it for the world! Good Luck!!! Rene
