Guest guest
Morning all Just curious as to whether others have undergone abdominal ultrasounds while pregnant/postop? My OB mentioned that in speaking to my surgeon, it was decided that it's a good idea to take two abdominal u/s during the third trimester; making sure the baby/uterus hasn't came into contact with a moved organ AND to make sure that the uterus hasn't grown up into my intestinal area. I've never heard of such a thing, but both explained that it happens quite often in women that've went through the more extensive weightloss surgeries, and that they want to keep on eye on my abdominal area because I had complications and more than one surgery. Then they told me not to worry, if something happens...I'll have plenty of discomfort firt....and that the women WHO HAVE DIED from this have usually let it go without asking for help. I'm not worried - but this seems a little extreme! Has anyone heard of such a thing? in Detroit
Guest guest
I go to a high risk doctor that has treated many WLS patients and seems as knowledgable about this as my WLS doc. I do get regular US to check growth fluid and placenta ect. but not abdominal. It was never mentioned to me at all - this is the first I am hearing of this. I am now at 32 weeks so if they were planning on it they would probabally mentioned something to me by now. I do have to admit that I have had a very smooth uneventful pregnancy so far so maybe they really just do not suspect any problems with me. The way I see it though an US cant hurt and better safe than sorry so don't sweat it unless they find a complication. It sounds like you will be well taken care of. - Diane > Morning all > Just curious as to whether others have undergone abdominal > ultrasounds while pregnant/postop? > My OB mentioned that in speaking to my surgeon, it was decided that > it's a good idea to take two abdominal u/s during the third > trimester; making sure the baby/uterus hasn't came into contact with > a moved organ AND to make sure that the uterus hasn't grown up into > my intestinal area. > I've never heard of such a thing, but both explained that it happens > quite often in women that've went through the more extensive > weightloss surgeries, and that they want to keep on eye on my > abdominal area because I had complications and more than one surgery. > Then they told me not to worry, if something happens...I'll have > plenty of discomfort firt....and that the women WHO HAVE DIED from > this have usually let it go without asking for help. > I'm not worried - but this seems a little extreme!
