Guest guest
Hey everyone... I have a really serious question for any and all of you. I found out officially on Monday that I am indeed pregnant...about 5-6 weeks. Everything has been going so well...no morning sickness or anything (YEAH!!!). Wed. night I was working out at the gym on the eliptical machine (not working too hard) and I felt a pain in my lower right abdomen. I finished my workout (about 5 more minutes) and just sat and rested while my hubby finished his workout. While I was waiting I went to the bathroom to see if I was bleeding. No blood, so I felt confident it was just gas. The next morning I was getting ready for work, putting my make up on, and I felt like I had to have a BM. I went to the bathroom and though, " Oh good...the discomfort I was feeling last night was just gas after all. " Then I wiped and noticed a little tiny bit of brownish spotting on the tissue. Of course I freaked out. After a call to the clinic and hearing back from my doctor, I felt a little more at ease. I decided, though, to keep at least a bit of my sanity, to go and see my primary care doctor just to have her check me out. She did a pelvic exam and said the cervix was closed as it should be and then she felt for any masses outside the uterus, checking for a possible ectopic pregnancy. Everything was perfectly normal. Then she took some blood. She called me back when she got the results and said that my hCG levels were right smack dab in the middle of where they should be. I'm going back in on Monday to have blood drawn again so she can check on the levels and see where we're at. When I got the call about the hCG levels I felt so much better. Last night however, I went to the bathroom and was bleeding enough that I stained my underwear. It wasn't a massive amount, but now I'm freaking out!! I called the doctor that was on call last night and he told me that he would be more than happy to look at me if I came in, but I might be better to wait and see. He said that if I was miscarrying there really isn't anything they can do at this early stage (which I already knew). So here's my real question: all of my symptoms are just like what I feel when I have my period. The bleeding isn't nearly as heavy as when I have my period and it's not bright red, it's more rust-ish color. I've heard that there are some women who actually get their periods (or maybe just one period) while they're pregnant. Has anyone experienced that?? Can anyone give me any words of wisdom or advice?? I mean, my exam and lab work were great yesterday, so I want to focus on that, but I'm also really sad and worried. I'm driving over to s Point, WI, today to tell my mom and sister. I was so looking forward to telling them about the baby and now this is overshadowing everything. Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom!!! Love and peace... Guest guest
many women have spotting in early pregnancy that the medical professionals call " implantation bleeding or spotting. " I've heard of some women bleeding regularly during pregnancy although they are watched very closely. If there's anything I've ever learned by being a L & D RN is that no 2 pregnancies or pregnant women are alike! It may be nothing but something that is *normal* for you. There is nothing I can do to make you feel better except to tell you that many women " bleed, spot etc " during early pregnancy and everything turns out fine. Od course, there are those who bleed and the outcome isn't as good. You have to take pregnancy day by day. facing each new day head on and trying not to worry about " what might happen. " Although it seems cold and insensitive, there is absolutely nothing the ER or the OB dr can do to stop a miscarriage, so unless you are having severe pain or heavy bleeding, having HCG levels drawn every 2 days is about all you can do this early. Take comfort in the fact that many women bleed and deliver healthy babies. You may want to wait on telling people that you are pg until you are certain it is going to " take " . Of course, if your sis and mom are like mine, they can hold your hand and worry with you. Good luck and best wishes! Sheila
Guest guest
Hi Melody and all. First of all, for some reason my emails were bouncing and so I've been cut out of the group for a few days. Secondly, I didn't know that I was cut out of the group because I've had the same problem you just described. On Friday night I found a little spotting while I was at work (I work evenings). Then when I came home I spotted most of the night. Come Saturday morning I was no longer bleeding, however my mother suggested I call the doctor's office anyways. So I did that and the nurse on-call said that I needed to get off my feet and stay off them until I've had 24 hours of no-bleeding. Ok, so no big deal. I work on weekends, but my job understands. So I've been off my feet all weekend and on Saturday afternoon I started bleeding again. This time a bit heavier. Then it leveled off again. I bleed very lightly most of the day on Sunday. I stopped bleeding this morning and haven't bled since. So I just need to go until tomorrow morning and that will be 24 hours of no-bleeding. However I went ahead and called the doctor's office again today and she had me come in for another blood test. They wanted to check my HcG levels which she said would increase or just about double since last week if everything's ok. I went to the lab and the results won't be ready until tomorrow morning around 10am. I'm just waiting on pins and needles until then. My husband and I are just so nervous now. Good thoughts all around for us would be greatly appreciated. Robin Irwin almost 7 weeks pregnant with baby #1!
