Guest guest
I have a lot of extra skin hanging on my tummy and I was wondering if anyone else has the same thing, how far along you were before you could tell you were pregnant? Isn't your tummy suppose to get hard? or do you think it be hard to tell until later months because of all the extra skin I have? I will be three months on Wednesday and just thought I would be able to tell by now. I'm a first time mom and I guess I am a little anxious about this whole experience. If anyone is willing to share, I greatly appreciate it. Thanks bunches! Hugs ~e in SD
Guest guest
Eventually it does get hard, but for me at least, it was like wearing a basketball covered with big slidy skin. Literally. I could take my belly skin and slide it up and down over Baby. It was a very weird effect and I only did it once for my husband, and he was impressed, but not in a good way. heh heh -- Kris on 7/23/04 6:51 PM, e at kyleeg22@... wrote: I have a lot of extra skin hanging on my tummy and I was wondering if anyone else has the same thing, how far along you were before you could tell you were pregnant? Guest guest
Showing or not showing early or late is so individual whether you've had surgery or now. At 3 months and a first pregnancy, you're not likely to be showing much at all, even without extra skin. You might find your clothes fitting tighter around the waist and possibly a little " pooch, " if your tummy were flat, but usually not more than that. I personally didn't have a super large panni after my weightloss, but it is actually more pronounced now that I am so large (37 weeks w/twins) because it hangs away from my pubic area and off of my tummy. I use a support belt to help keep the skin from making my belly feel even heavier. I'll bet you're anxious for those signs of pregnancy to begin. I was too and finally started really looking pregnant (in my clothes... not naked) to others, around 4 months (remember there are two growing in there). You'll notice your belly growing before others will, but its fun to watch. Good luck and congrats! Guest guest
Hi e. My pannus (love that word) is the kind that flattens out when I lay on my back. About 16 wks pg, I could feel a hard grapefruit sized lump. Now at 18 wks, 5 days, I can grope an area about the size of the palm of my hand. A couple of folks have volunteered (for some odd reason) that I'm showing. Dunno, it's mainly pannus, esp when I'm standing. Guest guest
I too am plagues with a large amount of extra skin. I never really looked pregnant at all until about a month ago and I am 35 weeks along. I still do not look very pregnant. My belly hardly ever gets hard at all. The only time you can feel any tightness or my uterus at all is when I am lying on my back and all the skin rolls to the side and down. Well, and when I am having contractions. But I have to admit the biggest problem with the extra skin is that all of my muscles in my entire torso and back are severely pulled and strained because in a normal woman's body her skin stretches to fit snuggly around her expanding stomach which acts as extra support for her her uterus. Since my uterus does not have this support, the muscles all around it are under extra stress and strain. It is very painful and makes it hard to sleep, walk and even strand still for even a short amount of time. I hope you do not have the same problems as I do. But you can always buy one of those support belts and harnesses. I did not get one because I just took the pain for so long and now that it is almost unbearable I don't see the point in paying for one when I have so little time left. But if you have a considerable amount of skin (I have at least 4-5 inches that hang) I would suggest buying one early on. Hope the info helps. e

I didn't have any braxton hicks, and when the actual labor started, it was like really bad menstrual cramps. That just kept getting harder and harder. Good luck. Guest guest
It's nice hearing from you e - we are so familiar with Adam and feel like we know you too. My question for you is with all of the extra belly fat and skin still how can you tell you are actually having a contraction. I am only 2 weeks behind you and am not sure if I have had any BH contractions or not and I too was not too far out fron surgery so I still have quite a bit more to loose. The nurse said I would tell when my abdomen gets hard bu with fat and extra skin covering it how can you tell. People think I am crazy but I fear that I will go into labor and not even know it until it gets real intense. Oh well glad to hear from you too - Keep posting - Diane > I too am plagues with a large amount of extra skin. I never really looked pregnant at all until about a month ago and I am 35 weeks along.
