I can't speak from experience, YET, but I don't see any reason why I won't be

able to exclusively breastfeed my daughter when she makes her grand debut in

October. Before I even had my WLS, I consulted with my PCP, my OB, and my

surgeon and they all three assured me that I could have a healthy pregnancy AND

breastfeed exclusively after having weight loss surgery. (Open RNY Gastric

Bypass) I can tell you this, after losing all of my weight, my breasts were like

deflated balloons. Now, they are big & full again, obviously preparing for

breastfeeding!!! I can't wait!

Best wishes!

If you can eat enough and get plenty of vits while BF'ng ... there is no real

reason you couldn't BF.

Some ladies become very deficient post op... during pg.. and post pg.. that

one's health can become compromised.

I am looking forward to attempting a 2nd try at BF'ng.. providing I go Full term

this time.

This is my 1st baby post op... and Noah was a preemie... no milk flow..stress...

he ended up Formula Fed.

Since you have successfully BF already... and know the drill.. I see no reason

why you wouldn't be equally successful again!

Congrats on the weight loss and have fun with conception.. :)

I need the " skinny " on breastfeeding

It is very important to me but of course I will still

have a baby even if I won't be able to BF.

Thanks in advance

I think if you have breastfed before you will know what to expect this time

around. My baby is due any minute and I also breastfed my son and am expecting

to do it this time around too.

I was told by my OB that I will have to take better care of myself after our

baby is born than while pregnant to make sure I get good nutrition and take my

vitamins.....stay hydrated...etc, etc, etc.

Meg,

I breastfed my first son (pre WLS) with no difficulty whatsoever.

With my 2nd baby, post WLS by 2 years), I was NOT able to BF. I had

" nutrient poor breastmilk " so after 2 weeks of gaining NO weight

whatsoever, we added formula to my watery milk. He started gaining on

the formula.

I know many women HAVE successfully BF, but unfortunately, due to

nutritional deficiencies due to the WLS, I was unable to this last time.

:(

Best wishes for you though!!

Sheila
