Guest guest
Hello i am 11 wks and over 2 yrs post op i have been so weak and so very fatigued. My ob found i am low on b12, going to have shots. EVERYONE thinks i am a freak to be pregnant and " so sick. " My ob even said, " oh i guess you will just be tired this pregnancy. " (When i was obese i had a daughter, that was almost 7 yrs ago--and i am now going to be 35 in sept.) I dont know where to turn for resources. I am on my last leg at work. I work for the local phone company and if i miss one more time i am fired. (I have missed alot since my gastric bypass--complications and surgeries afterwards.) I can barely work--and i am an operator. Basically, i am very weak, very tired, if i stand too long or walk i: get the feeling like i have an elephant on my chest, breathing is a bit difficult, i get sweaty, my vision gets blurry, i get light headed and dizzy, and when its VERY BAD my tounge gets numb (like i had been at the dentist office for a filling) and if its REALLY VERY BAD my lips get numb too. My primary care docs office said something like vaso vagil response. My ob doesnt seem to concerned. BUT i can barely stand w/o this happening. He sent me to ER and they did TON of tests and i was OK. The only thing i read was i had high Eosonophils (spelling.) I appreciate any feedback. Thanks. Yvonne Kuljey@... Guest guest
yvonne...just my opinion...that's pretty excessive symptoms, i say change obs, or demand your ob eem more concerned. if you go to him enough, he'll get sick of ya and do something. let him know you are on the verge of getting fired and this can't go on. good luck... aka mom2ben99 (jennilee75@...) Guest guest
If your ob doesn't help...get a second opinion. Sounds very serious. I had alot of those symptoms, severe..but not my tongue and lips getting numb. If it continues, check out your work disability plan. Some cover for pregnancy. Your ob or other drs involved will have to fil out reasons and sign though. good luck Sharonn in Ga

The SAME exact thing happened to me. I was literally so tired that I would come home from work at 5pm and go to bed. My OB said pretty much the same thing, that I'm older (in my 30's now) and after having two other children, I should be more tired than I was the first two times around. My Mom kept reminding me that she didn't have any problems with fatigue during her pregnancies, which I politely reminded her that she also didn't have WLS and have a B12 deficiency! Anyway, after being on the B12 shots for about a month, and after I made it to the second trimester, around 13-14 weeks pregnant, I began feeling MUCH better. Now that I'm in my third trimester, I'm taking it easy, but the fatigue is nothing like it was those first few months. Hang in there! Guest guest
Yvonne, I suspect you are in a crisis of malnutrition. When is the last time you had the COMPLETE set of recommended lab work done? The complete list that's required by my surgeon and most of the other surgeons in my area (including nationally-known revision surgeon Dr. Ki Oh) is listed below. B-12 deficiency can cause a particularly difficult type of anemia called pernicious anemia that can be quite treatment-resistant. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000569.htm Many of us have found that weekly doses of Vitamin B-12 via IM injection and up to THREE Chromagen Fortes (an Rx iron) are needed each day to bring us back to normal, with that " normal " result sometimes taking 3-6 months to achieve. B-12 deficiency can also cause some of the symptoms you describe, and unfortunately, if your neurologic system has been damaged, the damage is permanent. High eosonophils suggest an acute allergic reaction. Do you take allergy medicine at all? Were you having an allergic reaction when you had your blood tested? Are you allergic to latex? (This causes some people's blood work to show high eos because they are reacting to the latex tourniquet and gloves used to draw the blood!) You need to fire your OB NOW. This person doesn't get it and could literally cost you your life. I would never tolerate a doctor who spoke to me in such a callous way! Your PCP doesn't sound like the sharpest knife in the drawer either. Did neither of them pull a CBC and electrolytes panel when you were going through this? That's so basic that NOT doing this bloodwork is akin to malpractice IMO. As for your work situation, consider taking FMLA time. They CAN'T fire you then. They also can't fire you when on short-term disability. Please keep us posted. If they didn't run all this lab work, and you get them to run it, make sure that you get a copy of the results faxed to you (they will not give you a hard time about this; they have to provide it to you BY LAW if you request it). Then enter the stuff here, make sure you give us the brief test name, the normal range values, and of course, your number. I and probably some of the other people here have quite a bit of experience interpreting lab test results. ============ Lab Tests recommended for Gastric Bypass patients Regularly (every 3-6 months depending on your previous results) Keep track of any levels that are declining from one set of tests to the next, even if not yet in the low range. Make any corrections necessary in your diet and vitamin regimen before the levels get too low. CPT Code Test Description 85025 CBC w/diff Complete Blood Count with Differential Test includes: Hematocrit; hemoglobin; mean corpuscular volume (MCV); mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH); mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC); red cell distribution width (RDW); percentage and absolute differential counts; platelet count; red cell count; white blood cell count 80053 CMP Comprehensive Metabolic Panel Test includes: A:G ratio; albumin, serum; alkaline phosphatase, serum; ALT (SGPT); AST (SGOT); bilirubin, total; BUN; BUN:creatinine ratio; calcium, serum; carbon dioxide, total; chloride, serum; creatinine, serum; globulin, total; glucose, serum; potassium, serum; protein, total, serum; sodium, serum 80061 LP Lipid Panel With Total Cholesterol:HDL Ratio Test includes: Cholesterol, total; high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol; low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (calculation); triglycerides; very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol (calculation); Total cholesterol:HDL ratio 82977 GGT Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase (GGT). Use: A biliary enzyme that is especially useful in the diagnosis of obstructive jaundice, intrahepatic cholestasis, and pancreatitis. GGT is more responsive to biliary obstruction than are aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (SGOT) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (SGPT). 83615 LD or LDH Lactic Acid Dehydrogenase. Use: diagnosing anemias, hypothyrodism, liver diseases. 84100 PO4 Inorganic Phosphate, Blood. Use: parathyroid issues, liver disease, malnourishment, vitamin deficiencies, osteomalacia, 84550 UA Uric Acid, Serum. Use: gout, dehydration, anemias, low protein intake 82607; 82746 B12 & Folate Vitamin B12 and Folates levels. 83540; 83550 Fe & TIBC Iron and Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC). Test includes: Percent of saturation; serum iron; total iron binding capacity; unsaturated iron binding capacity 82728 Ferritin Ferritin, Serum The serum ferritin is, other than a bone marrow examination, the most reliable indicator of total body iron stores. 84446; 84590 Vitamins A & E Vitamins A & E. Requires patient to fast for 48 hours prior to collection, Specimen must be protected from light and frozen. Use: check for vitamin deficiency. Not recommended during pregnancy (excessive fast required). 82306 Vitamin D Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy (Cholecalciferol Metabolite; 25-Hydroxycalciferol; 25-OH-D; Vitamin D3 Metabolite). 84436; 84443; 84479; 84480 Thyroid Panel Thyroid Profile II (Comprehensive) Test includes: Free thyroxine index (FTI); T3 uptake (THBR); thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH); thyroxine (T4); tri-iodothyronine (T3) 84630 Zinc Zinc, Serum. Use: monitor nutritional deficiency Note: do this test at 1 year post-op, 3 years post-op, and then eliminate if you are paying for your own labs (no insurance). This is an expensive test and zinc is often fairly steady over time. 83970 PTH Intact Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), Intact. Requires overnight fast. Use: Diagnosis of parathyroid disease and other diseases of calcium homeostasis. PTH is secreted in response to decrease in serum calcium levels by increasing the renal reabsorption of calcium and lowering reabsorption of phosphorus. 83735 Mg, RBC Magnesium, RBC. Use: evaluate magnesium deficiency 83036 Hgb A1c Hemoglobin (Hgb) A1c With MBG Estimation. Used to estimate mean glucose levels over time. *YEARLY - DEXA SCAN for bone density. Guest guest
Hi Yvonne, did they also check your iron? Be sure & follow-up with the B12. Your OB seems beyond dispassionate, he's unconcerned that you're barely about to function?....
