Guest guest
WOW...I hope you are right and your child never has any sort of illness for which his/her cord blood would be helpful or necessary. I banked my first child's cord blood and will bank this one's too. I prefer to be safe than sorry - to me, it was like, 'why bother with a college fund, she may not want to go to college...' Well, she has a college fund that was started before she was born and her cord blood has been banked for 20 years...there are a couple of people in my family who have had leukemia (1 died at 12, 2 in remission)and had this technology been perfected in the 60's I can guarantee that their parents would have banked their cord blood just for the CHANCE that their child would be alive today. I don't feel like I have been prayed upon by some corporate giant to bilk me of my money...just like her college fund, it is an investment in her future. Also, I am of the opinion that the baby needs the blood in the cord when it's born... that blood should be allowed to drain into them then, before the cord is cut. But keep looking for more opinions. I think it's profiteering on worried new parents, plain and simple. Z

Many of us DONATE cord blood... so it is available to those in need. I can see your concern regarding the cord blood because of the history in your family. But I for one would never equate cord blood with a college fund... it really is Apples and Oranges. None of us in my family had a college fund.. and we all went to college... AND some of us have advanced degrees. If the cord blood companies really believed in the services they provided.. they would make it more affordable for everyone. Even If I had that extra money .. I would never pay those highway robbery prices.
