Guest guest
How do you know how much your baby should be eating and how often should you increase how much formula there eating. Mathew was born via C-section July 3, 2003 at 10:03am he was 7lbs 3 oz and 20 inches long. I ended up being put out cause the epidural stop working and from what i heard his heart rate wasnt tolerating the epidural and dont remember anything after that. When i woke up i saw him breifly and he was taken to NICU and was put on Cpap for awhile and was taken off later that evening but remained in the NICU for 48hours and then to a Intermediate nursery after that on antibiotics which they said was because he was septic but his pediatrician said they say and put him on anitibiotics as a precaution. When I took him home July 9th the hospital recommended I take him to my pediatrician next week. Which i did and when he was weighed he weighed 6lbs 15oz and the Dr was concerned saiying he should have gained his birth weight back so he had me feeding him every 3 hours which wasnt easy and still sometimes he has a issue with sleeping rather then eating. Is this normal in babies?? And if so when does it get easier?? I took him back to the Dr a week later for a weight check and he was 7lbs 11oz which the Dr was very happy about he didnt think he would have gained as much as he did so I was relieved but he still wants him eating every 3 and no more then 4 hours which usually is ok but sometimes he rather sleep and i have to wake him up to eat. Some of my friend who have kids stay at nite if he wants to sleep let him just to make sure to feed him every 3-4 hours during the day. Did anyone else have a issue with there baby sleeping rather then eating. Sometimes he will eat a bottles 15-30 min but sometimes it toke me a hour to finish one bottle. He seems to be getting better but it worries me that there is something wrong that he rather sleep then eat or fall asleep during a feeding and not eat enough. Its hard to keep him awake at times to eat. He is up to 4oz a feeding and has even eaten up to 5 oz. Is he on track or is this something I should be calling my pediatrician about?? He goes back to the Dr Aug 23 and Im sure he has gained more he seems heavier. Now on the vitamin issue. I am still takin prenatals but dont think I can take them for the rest of my life. What vitamins(name brands) are you guys taking?? My OB had me takin 2 prenatals a day and now im only takin one. I have a feeling its not enough but will take any advice I can get. I love this group. Reading all the post is so helpful. I would have been lost thru my pregnancy without this site. I will post a pic of my little man on this site as soon as I can get one scaned. Thanks for all your guys help and support your all the best. Guest guest
hey lisa, i think you are doing jsut fine. for being jsut over a month, eating 4 oz every 4 hours is right on. i say they need thier sleep more then they need to eat, they will tell you when they are hungry, i wouldn't wake hime up, especially since now he's well over his birth weight. you're doing fine...let him lead you, or put him on a schedule, but really babies need thier sleep more then anything. good luck. aka mom2ben99 (jennilee75@...) Guest guest
Hi there =) I have a 3 1/2 year old now (pre WLS) and have been TTC for a month now. When my little man was born he was 7# 11oz. I can't remember all his weights but I know at 8 weeks he was 13#. The Dr.s thought he was a biggie for his age. I nursed him during that time and I remember that was what the Dr and nurses all contributed his high weight to. I do remember in the beginning having to wake him up to feed him. One of the things that the nurses told me at the beginning is that they are used to not having to be awake to eat so if you get them too comfy and cozy they thing they are back in the womb and will not necessarily wake to eat. My Ped nurses told me that when it is time to feed him get him naked down to his diaper so he will not be so comfy and cozy. With that said, sleep is also SO important to these little ones. That is when they grow. I think getting him on a schedule if you can, is going to be the key. I would call the Pediatrician though even if it's to talk to the nurses. You are a first time Mommy and there are so many questions! With Sammy I would call so often that I would ask the nurses, " Who bothers you more than me? " That would put them in a better mood to answer all my silly, but important, first time mommy questions. Also if you have other newer mommies ask them too. It's quite funny how many different answers you will probably get! Good luck and Congrats on your new playmate! Jeanette in IL Lap RNY 5-9-03 264/145/135??
