Guest guest
I go to a group that has 5 docs. And as an OB patient you have to see all of the doctors. I could schedule my apts. with the ones I like but then when I deliver the baby I always have the chance of having a doc I don't care for. You might like the doc once you get to know him, and who said that he/she had less experience? I am sure that the practice wouldn't hire someone that they felt would not be up to their standards. That would make them look pretty dumb. I am sure everything will be fine, just give it a chance. Guest guest
I would have at least one appt with her and see how you like her first. I found the woman who was rough at my docs appt was actually the doc I ended up liking the best and she was on when i went into labor and delivered Emerson. At least get that one time with her, mine was new to the practice too but used to be in practice with her ex-husband. Guest guest
Hey guys. When I began going to OB appts, the practice had 2 docs. Fine. I was told either one could deliver my bb, in one of 2 hospitals, & we won't know in advance. Loveleee! Now, they've added a 3rd OB, with less experience I believe. Dh says to keep an open mind. I was thinking that since I joined when it was 2 docs, I could be grandfathered, & therefore only have to deal with the original 2. Why the skepticism? It may have something to do with all the OB med mal cases I come across as a paralegal student. Is it unreasonable to ~request~ that I only want the 2 original MDs? I'll go ahead & meet the new gal @ the end of the month, heck, maybe I'll like her best!? I'm feelin' a little passive when it comes to this. Guest guest
This is why I prefer my practice of midwives. You work with TWO midwives. One of the two is ALWAYS available to you. If some freakish situation would happen where one of them is NOT available to you, this would be communicated in advance and you would work with one of the other three pairs of midwives. But since 1998, I have only heard of this happening twice. The midwives are very careful to not take on more women than they can help deliver each week. Guest guest
i say meet her, but if you don't want to meet her, yeah, you can always refuse to see her, but if she's the one on call when you go into labor, then she'll be the one you get without having ever met her. good luck...hope you like her. aka mom2ben99 (jennilee75@...) Guest guest
Thanks to Meridth, , Robin, K, & for your replies to my OB semi dilemma. I'll give the new chick a chance, but to paraphrase my sister, I'll be nice like a dove but vigilant like a hawk, or somethin' like that. Thanks again:-) WlsMomma 21 weeks, 1 day
Guest guest
When I had my son there was one of the three Drs in the practice that I didn't care for as much. He had a real DRY humor and my Aunt is a L & D nurse and told me he does a terrible job with circs. I didn't know I was having a boy, but I did discuss this all with the one OB that I felt closest to. She was very understanding and told me that he might have to deliver the baby if he is on call when I pop. Fortunately, my favorite Dr. was on call when I started with regular contractions so she gave me a choice to go home and wait for my water to break, or go into the hospital and have it broken for me. Because I wanted to have her deliver my baby, and I just wanted to be done being preggo, I went ahead and had her break my water. If you are honest and not too demanding on the OBs I think they can sometimes work things out for ya! Just a touch of my personal experience. Jeanette in IL Lap RNY 5-9-03 264/145/135?? Guest guest
Thanks Jeannette. I'd say I'm assertive & prone to never take no for an answer, but I wouldn't say I'm demanding, hehe. OB #1 looked @ me like I had leprosy after I disclosed some details regarding some med mal suits I'd studied in school, oh no. OB #2 was great, he fell in love with my dh after learning he was Scandinavian. My gut tells me that doc #2 will take care of us, he's the main partner & does all the scheduling. In the spirit of cooperation, I'm meeting doc #3. As long as she goes along with my birth plan, which I cranked out 6 weeks ago, then o.k. But I have a feeling, OB #1 is revolted by the thought of me & my lawyer friends. Guest guest
It's pretty pathetic that any doctor would let someone's profession or experiences enter into their healthcare. I bet he is just scared that you know what he should be doing as an OB and he will have to really mind his Ps and Qs which will ultimaelly give you better healthcare, hopefully! Guest guest
---now I'm just the opposite. I usually treat my patients 2 ways- exceptional and good. Some get more attention for various reasons (first time moms need more attention), but I NEVER give anyone extra soecial treatment b/c of " who they know " or " who they work for " . I treat all of my patients the same, regardless of their occupation (lawyer/legal/medical or not). Some actually come in with the pissy attitude that " hey, I am a lawyer and you will do as I say or I will sue. Big whoop! I am confident in my nursing care and am competent enough to handle any emergency that may arise. Some actually do come in *demanding* the red carpet treatment and think they are going to get better treatment because they are attornies or something. The ones I give extra attention to, of course, are the ones that need it first of all. Some are more acutely ill and need more 1 on 1 care. First time moms' are scared to death and need alot of questions answered. The rest kinda are taken care of by priority and being in the legal profession isn't a priority to me UNLESS, she is acutely ill or is a first time Mom. Then they will get more of my attention. Other nurses will say, " blah blah is a lawyer, better treat her right. " Well, I treat all of my patients *right* so this has no bearing on my care given. I actually treated my crack addict quite good yesterday, spending alot of time trying to *convert* her OFF of crack. *sigh* a nurses job is never done!! Be nice to me and I'll be just as nice to you! Guest guest
The OB's not too bad, he has 22 years of experience, but apparently, not too much experience with folks like me, who are acutely aware what constitutes negligence & good ole breach of duty. Guest guest
My gripe is mainly with M.D.s, & specialists, who act, or try to act, with impunity. The ones who feel superior or entitled for some odd reason. WlsMomma > ---now I'm just the opposite. I usually treat my patients 2 ways- > exceptional and good.
